Super Soft Starter
Model: SSS
Very Slow Start, Low Power, Pump Start Systems
The Super Soft Start (SSS) system is predominantly used for generator applications to eliminate the need for oversizing the generator when using conventional soft starters or VFD and does not require harmonic filters.
Features:
* Suitable for Single Pump Applications.
* Multiple ramp time profiles for bore pumps and other applications.
* Reduces generator fuel consumption by allowing the correct size generator selection.
* Failsafe restart inbuilt.
* Manual DOL operation is optional for backup operation as switchgear is AC3 rated.
* Powder coated (RAL7035 Oyster Grey or X15 Orange), mild steel zinc anneal or zinc primed enclosure.
* Pad lockable mains isolator.
* IP66 ingress protection as standard.
* Includes AOM switch for local and remote activation.
* Run and fault indicator lights as standard.
* Can be fitted with heat shields and sun/rain roof for standalone applications.
* Motor protection circuit breaker for each pump.
* ELV control ?? 24VDC
Notes:
* The standard configuration is not suitable for installation into direct sunlight.
* Maximum ambient operating temperature: 50C, higher temperatures available upon request.
* Maximum relative humidity: 95%, non-condensing.
*Purpose built systems from 7.5KW to 1MW available.

The Super Soft Start (SSS) system is predominantly used for generator applications to eliminate the need for oversizing the generator when using conventional soft starters or VFD and does not require harmonic filters. The Super Soft Start, uses a purpose built controller which ramps up a frequency inverter, and bypasses to mains DOL after matching all of the incoming and outgoing phases. The SSS is typically set up to limit the input current to be no more than 110% of the full motor current which allows considerably smaller generator sizing. Conventional DOL (Direct On Line) starting, inflicts high in rush currents, voltage dips and mechanical shock. Electronic Soft Starters and Star Delta Starters also require a power supply that is at least three time the size of the motor. Transformers, Generators and other equipment must be oversized or capable of delivering overload currents for up to 60 seconds to accommodate these higher starting currents and eliminate voltage or frequency shutdown trips. Once the inverter has been bypassed, the motor will run directly from the supply source. The inverter is then shut down eliminating any power consumption or heat generation.
Note : If this system is to be used on a submersible pump, then a DV/DT filter should also be included.
